吉罗(Myrlène Girault)在发现送货卡车的催化转化器(catalytic converter)上月深宵被盗时， 她便知道这种盗窃情况的严重性。事实上，催化转化器盗窃案在魁北克今年再次频繁发生，而且仍在增长。
保险公司指出，因为催化转化器被盗而提出的索赔量一年内激增 60%，过去五年更是飙升1700%，情况吓人。
在蒙特利尔开设医疗用品公司的吉罗说：“由于卡车无法使用两周，因而取消很多送货，造成很大困扰。”
保险公司主管坦努斯 (Marc Tannous) 说，贼人只需要几分钟时间便能够偷去催化转化器。他说：“催化转化器盗窃数量是2018年的17倍，2022年此类盗窃的平均索赔额为2,900元。”
催化转化器是汽油排气系统的一部分。它含有稀有金属，例如铑，其价值达到每盎司6,400 美元，是黄金的三倍多。
保险公司建议车主尽可能将车停在车库中，否则将其停在光亮地方，并考虑安装一个钢笼保护这个装置避免被盗。
