寻求减少对美依赖 加拿大斥资350亿元增强北极地区防御计划

加拿大总理卡尼宣布将额外拨款约 350 亿元，增强加拿大在北极地区的防御能力，自行捍衞领土主权，遏制潜在威胁，不再依赖别国。
卡尼表示，他的政府将 “ 全面捍卫加拿大北极和北部地区，遏制新的威胁，并支持北约盟国和北美防空司令部的防御。 ”
新计划中大部分资金将用于升级改造 4 个北部军事基地，亦会增设 4 个作战支援中心，存放军用装备和弹药，并部署部队。当局并将加快建造新公路，连通加拿大南部与北极地区。
加拿大北极地区涵盖 440 万平方公里陆地和海域，人迹罕至，加方长期依赖美国协助监测有关地区，但美国总统特朗普的关税政策，以及有关吞并加拿大的言论，令两国关系转趋紧张。
