蒙特利尔修女岛居民担心轻轨令交通变得更为繁忙

随着轻轨(REM)即将通车，蒙特利尔修女岛(L’Île-des-Sœurs)居民担心区内的公寓大楼更为密集，并且忧心交将会更为繁忙。
事实上，早在轻轨启用前，修女岛内的公寓大楼就开始涌现，让当地的长期居民感到不满，他们怀疑社区的发展是否真的集中在公共交通上。
修女岛居民纳瓦尔表示他并不反对轻轨，令他困扰的是公寓楼的密度。 “当有更多人居住时，马路上的汽车数量也会增加。”
2018年的一项调查显示，修女岛有超过六成的出行是使用汽车。
蒙特利尔大学城市规划系教授兼主任 Jean-Philippe Meloche 指出，轻轨周边有着密集的公寓，但是住客不一定使用公共交通。
在修女岛生活了 35 年的波斯也怀疑新搬进来的居民会放弃使用汽车。他说，“乘坐轻轨前往蒙特利尔老城区将需要更长的时间，人们还会乘坐吗？”
修女岛业主和居民协会主席 Daniel Manseau 表示：“如果我们再增加 1,500 或 2,000 套带停车场的住宅，肯定会为岛上带来更多汽车。”
Verdun和修女岛的女区长 Marie-Andrée Mauger 认为，政府自2018年以来已开始对轻轨车站周围进行反思，以防止过度发展。
他们因此在2020 年通过特别城市规划，限制了建筑密度和高度，现时的建筑高度限制为78 米，以保护观看皇家山的景观。
