美国2100万元祖父母受骗案 25名加人被控“精心策划”骗局

美国在对一起大规模祖父母骗局进行调查后， 25 名加拿大人（主要来自蒙特利尔区）被指控从佛蒙特州和其他 40 个州的老人手中骗取了超过 2100 万元。
根据周二 (4 日 ) 公布的起诉书，参与这项复杂电话诈骗的嫌疑人在蒙特利尔市中心以西的 Pointe-Claire 和 Vaudreuil-Dorion 的呼叫中心网络工作，并假扮成陷入紧急法律麻烦并需要亲属快速提供保释金。
其他骗徒会假扮律师，告诉老年受害者有 “ 禁言令 ” ，禁止他们向任何人透露紧急情况。
起诉书称，该诈骗案发生于 2021 年夏季至 2024 年 6 月期间，每年诈骗金额高达数百万元。
负责调查此案的克罗尔 (Michael J. Krol) 形容这是 “ 一起精心策划的犯案，利用受害者的恐惧行骗，受害者以为他们正在帮助陷入困境的亲人。 ”
克罗尔表示逮捕行动得到了魁省警隊和加拿大皇家骑警的重要合作。
其中 5 名被告被指控管理呼叫中心，并面临串谋洗钱的额外指控。如果罪名成立，他们可能面临最高 40 年的监禁。
其他被告面临最高 20 年的监禁。
